A native of Mt. Kisco (June 29, 1927), near New York City, Fr. Bond made Simple Profession on August 16, 1949 and was ordained to the Priesthood on June 9, 1955.
Fr. Bond spent his whole Dominican life at Providence College in Providence, RI, serving as Professor of English and Dean of Undergraduate Studies there. He enjoyed a reputation for high standards in the classroom, wit with his brethren in the common room, and compassion to students in his capacity as Dean.
He lived with cancer for the last months of his life, and was cared for by the Dominican Sisters of St. Rose of Lima at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, NY, until his death on May 3, 2004.
Vicar Provincial, V. Rev. Carleton P. Jones, O.P., was the celebrant at the Mass of Christian Burial and Rev. James Ferrer Quigley, O.P., was the homilist. Fr. Bond’s funeral, which was attended by three bishops, was celebrated in the new chapel at Providence in the presence of many of his students and colleagues. Burial followed in the Dominican Friars’ cemetery at Providence College in Providence, RI.
