Fr. Raymond Martin McCabe, O.P., died on November 22, 2005, at the Mohun Health Care Center of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus, OH. He received the loving care of the Dominican sisters and staff of Mohun Hall from October of 2002 until his death in 2005.

Father McCabe was born in Zanesville, OH, on November 1, 1914, to John A. McCabe and Anastasia Gable. He attended St. Rose Parochial School, New Lexington, OH, from 1921-1925, and St. Thomas Parochial School, Zanesville, OH, from 1925-1930. He attended St. Thomas High School, from 1931-1935. Father entered the Dominican Novitiate at St. Rose Priory in Springfield, KY, in 1940. He made his Simple Profession on August 16, 1941, and his solemn profession on August 16, 1944. Father obtained a BA in Theology from the Dominican House of Studies, Washington, DC, in 1948. Father was ordained to the priesthood on June 5, 1947 at St. Dominic Church, Washington, DC, by the Most Rev. Archbishop Amleto G. Cicognani.

In 1948 Father was assigned to parochial ministry at Holy Name Church, Philadelphia, PA, where he served until 1970. He then served in parochial ministry in St. Patrick Church, Columbus, OH, from 1970-1971. Father served as Chaplain to the Dominican Nuns at Holy Rosary Monastery in Camden, NJ, from 1971-1973. He was then assigned to parochial work at St. Patrick Church, Columbus, OH, from 1973-1984. From 1984-1993 Father served in parochial ministry at St. Dominic Church, Youngstown, OH. In 1993 Father returned to the Dominican Nuns at Holy Rosary in Camden, NJ, to serve as their chaplain. In 2001 Father was assigned to St. Thomas Church in Zanesville, OH, serving in limited parochial ministry. Because of his failing health he was moved to Mohun Health Center in October of 2002 and remained there until his death.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Mohun Hall Chapel on November 26, 2005, by the V. Rev. Dominic Izzo, O.P., Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph. The homilist at the funeral Mass was Fr. Stephen Fitzhenry, O.P.  Burial was in the Dominican Friars’ cemetery at St. Joseph Church in Somerset, OH.
