We have a dire situation. The costs for four of our new men are not yet covered! And although our Novices live the austere and frugal lives of mendicant friars, that still translates into $72,000 that we need before the end of our fiscal year on June 30th ($18,000 per year, per man for food, shelter, insurance and other living expenses).
Without that $72,000, which four would you send home?
In reality, the Province is as committed to these men as they are committed to serving God as Dominicans. So if we have to, we’ll borrow the money or dip into our already depleted reserves to cover the cost for all of them.
However, a potential funding shortfall this year will have a negative impact on our ability to say “yes” to other men now waiting in the wings—serious men waiting to begin their priestly formation and life as Dominican friars. If that happens, the surge in vocations may be at-risk.
That is why, once again, I am asking for your help. By opening your heart today to the Dominican Friars, you will directly support our mission to evangelize our culture in crisis. May God bless you and all your family now and always.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Gabriel Gillen, O.P.
