Charles became a novice in St. Joseph’s Province at St. Stephen Priory, Dover, MA in August 1971.  Here he made his simple profession a year later. He did his theological studies at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC. In this city he was ordained to the priesthood at St. Dominic Church by the Most Reverend Edward J. Herrmann, Bishop of Columbus, OH.

Fr. Shannon’s first assignment (1977-1979) was as an assistant pastor at St. Thomas Church, Zanesville, OH. He was then assigned to Holy Innocents Rectory, Pleasantville, NY from 1979-1981.
