Brother Basil Burroughs was born in Singapore as the younger of two sons in a Canadian diplomatic family. After growing up in several countries in Asia, he moved to Kingston, Ontario, where he studied Economics at Queen’s University. While attending university, Br. Basil converted to Catholicism and received his first sacraments at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Kingston. He worked in campus ministry for two years before entering the Order. “For most of my life I have desired to serve the common good. I have found in Jesus Christ the fulfillment of that desire, and in the Dominican Order the invitation to abide with Him and to preach Him as the true light of the world.”
