A Cooperator brother, John Fabian Butler was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 20, 1913. He attended elementary school, St. Anthony’s in Philadelphia from 1920-1927 and high school at St. Charles Seminary, Overbrook, PA, from 1933-1938. He then attended business school at St. Anthony’s, in Philadelphia from 1927-1928. He then entered Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington, NJ from 1938-1939.
His assignments were mainly as Sacristan at St. Mary’s, New Haven, CT, from 1948-1959; at St. Dominic’s, Washington, DC; and Sacristan and part-time Class 6 Boiler Operator at St. Dominic Priory in Washington, DC.
As of 1998, he was a resident of the Center for Assisted Living, at St. Dominic’s in Washington, DC, where he died on February 9, 2003.
Fr. Edward M. Gaffney, O.P., was celebrant and homilist at Bro. Fabian’s Mass of Christian Burial held at St. Dominic’s Church, Washington, DC. Bro. Fabian was laid to rest in the Dominican Friars’ section of Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
