Brother Cassian is from Youngstown, New York. He earned a B.S. in physics and a B.A. in mathematics at the University at Buffalo, before going on to earn an M.S. in physics and a Ph.D. in theoretical and computational astrophysics at Cornell University. He first met the Dominicans in graduate school and became involved in the Thomistic Institute and the Society of Catholic Scientists. This deepened his love for the Dominican charism, and after graduating he entered the Order of Preachers. “Following the example of our Holy Father Dominic, ‘I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may accomplish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24).’”
