Fr. Leo Camurati was born in Flushing, NY. His father Carl owned a professional photo finishing lab, while his mother Lorraine is a school nursing supervisor. While studying at Cooper Union for a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, he met the Dominicans at St. Joseph’s Parish in Greenwich Village. After graduating, he worked for a few years as a conformity assessment engineer for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Br. Leo has one older sister, Melanie. “I entered the Dominican Order because I saw how the friars’ preaching and warm demeanor could change lives, especially my own.”
