A Gift of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

A Gift of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a celebration of the love he has for mankind, the love that moved him to give himself on the Cross at Calvary.

This Solemnity is an appropriate time to recall not just the Passion, but all the many gifts that the Lord Jesus has given us. In his encyclical on the Sacred Heart, Haurietis aquas, Venerable Pope Pius XII highlighted the priesthood as one of the “gifts of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.” As a religious order dedicated to preaching the Gospel and the reverent celebration of the sacred liturgy, the Dominicans are profoundly grateful for the gift of the priesthood.

The Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Joseph are especially grateful for the gift of the seven new priests of our Province whom the Most Reverend Anthony Fisher, O.P., Archbishop of Sydney, ordained on June 5, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. To commemorate the ordination, please watch our recap video, featuring a selection of Archbishop Fisher’s masterful homily.
