Brother John Henry Peters was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Saline, Michigan. He is the fourth of six children. He became interested in the priesthood while an altar server at St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After being homeschooled, he studied philosophy (B.A.) and theology (M.A., S.T.B.) as a lay student at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit where his interest in the priesthood continued to grow and he was drawn to the Dominican charism. “I fell in love with the Dominican way of life because of how many wonderful elements it combines: the evangelical work of preaching, the intellectual life and apostolate, and the nourishment of community and common prayer.”
